Course Descriptions
Beginning Students
Music in Me & More Music in Me (ages 3-4)
2-16 week programs, 30 minutes weekly
Music in Me is a dynamic readiness program for young children with emphasis on ear training, solfege singing, movement, keyboard activities, pitch and rhythm awareness and finger games. Parent involvement in class and at home.
Harmony Road (ages 41/2- 6) HR
A 2-year program, 50 minutes weekly
The Harmony Road course is carefully constructed for children to learn the basic building blocks of music. Emphasis on ear training, solfege singing, keyboard playing, ensemble, rhythm activities, movement and creativity. This exceptional course gives the child “inner hearing” which makes transposing, improvisation and composing easily accessible in their musical studies. Parent involvement in class and at home.
Young Musician (ages 6-7) YM
A 2-year program, 50 minutes weekly
The Young Musician course introduces beginning students to keyboard performance and note reading in a holistic program including ear training, rhythm exercises, solfege singing, keyboard and ensemble activities. Parent involvement in class and at home.
Keyboard Prep (ages 8-11) KP
A 1 1/2 year program, 50 minutes weekly
The Keyboard Prep course is designed for children ages 8 to 11 who are studying piano for the first time. This motivating program develops the student’s basic musicianship skills through note reading,ear training, solfege singing, keyboard performance and music theory. Parent involvement is encouraged.
Continuing Students
Keyboard Musician KM
A 2-year program, 50 minutes weekly
Graduates of HR, YM, and KP programs. The Keyboard Musician course is for students who have completed Harmony Road Book 4, Young Musician Book 4, or Keyboard Prep Book 3. Students continue to develop piano skills through the study of varied repertoire styles, technical studies, sight-reading songs, and three and four part ensembles. Ear training is expanded to recognition of tonal centers and chord progressions. Transposing becomes an easily accomplished activity. Students learn to accompany themselves while singing solfege. Parent involvement is encouraged.
Advanced Course ADV
A 2-year program, 50 minutes weekly
Graduates of KM program; The Advanced course is for students who have completed the Keyboard Musician course. Students continue to develop piano performance skills with repertoire songs, scales and chord progressions, and finger exercises. Theory emphasizes chord theory with recognition of intervals and their position in melody and harmony. Parent involvement is encouraged.
Adult
12 years - adult; 19 Weeks per semester - (2 semesters) ; 50 Minutes per week Sight Reading, Theory, Ear Training , Improvisation
